von Braun´s Review
The DeTomaso Pantera has always been popular to modify among sports car enthusiasts. That is why it is very unusual to find such a nice and untouched Pantera as this one. This DeTomaso Pantera has only had two owners for 46 years since it was delivered new in the USA. It has only driven 29860 miles (48055km) and has matching numbers on both engine block and carburetor and gearbox. It was then sold to Sweden in 2019, where von Braun Sports Cars was commissioned to carry out a careful authentic renovation. The car has most likely left production with extra-optional complementary anti-corrosion treatment. It was therefore almost completely free of rust damage. At von Braun, the body was dismantled and then sanded clean from its worn original paint. A couple of minor surface alignment works and rust repairs were carried out before a high-quality painting in the original color could be carried out. The very nice original interior with double gauge housings on the dashboard is completely untouched. Even the unusual original steering wheel, seat belts and stereo with chrome speakers on the back wall remain. A single deviation from the original on the interior is the mounted Smith clock on the passenger side of the dashboard unfortunatly not working. The engine with fuel and ignition system is now completely overhauled. The car's chrome details are newly renovated with copper before chrome plating and have a finish of very high quality. Stainless steel strips are polished before reassembly. Upholstery in the luggage compartment both at the front and at the back is new both under the bonnets and in the tub. Window lifts on older cars are often sluggish. We have therefore renovated both engines of the side windows. All rubber strips and seals on the body are new. Other functions such as brakes and electrical functions have been thoroughly reviewed. The fine original rims in Magnesium from Campagnolo have been renovated and have new tires fitted. Even the originally branded wheel nuts are preserved! The car has Swedish EU registration and is now exempt from inspection and road tax for all time to come in Sweden. More than 50 detailed photos in hi resolution also from restoration is found at vonBraun.com.
The production of the Pantera started in 1970 and before the 1972 model year, a number of improvements had been achieved, among other things, through the involvement of Ford. The cars now had a significantly higher quality around the body production. The engine received lower compression to meet American fuel standards, but at the same time better exhaust manifolds - so-called "headers" and a "Cobra Jet" camshaft with the same duration and lift as the camshaft in the Ford 428 Cobra Jet. New seats were also fitted, as the seats in the earliest cars limited the driver's length to about 182cm.
