The 1968 Shelby GT500 KR was the final product of the collaboration between Ford and Carroll Shelby's many iterations of the Mustang. When a completely new version of the 428 Police Interceptor engine came to life through improved cylinder heads and more efficient exhaust manifolds, the 428 Cobra Jet was born. The engine quickly found its way into the Shelby GT500, which became the GT500 KR — or "King of the Road." Only 335 horsepower was declared, but this was widely considered a significant understatement, with actual output said to have been no less than 400 hp.
This is one of 1,053 King of the Road coupes produced, which — after half a century in its home country — made its way to Sweden, where it has resided since 2011. The car is currently in good but slightly patinated condition, which also means it can be driven and enjoyed without kid gloves.

For 25 years this Shelby sat at a Ford dealership in Costa Mesa, California. A thorough inspection was carried out on the car before it was shipped to Sweden. The casting number on the engine block appears to be original, and all other components — with the exception of the air cleaner — also appear to be entirely original. Recorded odometer reading: 49,827 miles (approx. 81,188 km).
