von Braun´s Review

The flagship model Mercedes 560 SL was introduced in 1986 and is the most modern and upgraded version of the R107 model series. The model was only delivered to the North American, Australian and Japanese markets and is thus not available in a European version. Even this diamond blue SL has therefore only been driven in a dry and fine climate all its life and does not show the slightest tendency to rust. The beautiful light blue color is called "Diamond Blue Metallic". According to the Mercedes build specification, the car left the factory with dark blue textile upholstery, but it appears to have been replaced by leather at some point. Even the fresh souffle goes tone-on-tone and is dark blue. Mercedes' original and very solid hardtop is included and gives you the opportunity to get as good a comfort as in a Coupé with a fixed roof while getting a bit of the car-characteristic "bird bath" that we recognize from the Mercedes Pagoda. Since the car came to Sweden, we have had completely new and more stylish European bumpers installed. The most complete and comprehensive presentation including 29 high-resolution photos of the car can be found at vonBraun.com.

This Mercedes was originally delivered in 1988 in Missouri Columbia which is located in the middle of the USA. The car's Carfax report reports a completely damage-free history. The second owner had the car for 16 years between 1996 to 2012 and from that time there are 5 documented service occasions. The third and last owner who was also a native of Missouri drove the car for 9 years until 2021.

The 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL is a classic and sought-after model in the R107 series
Engine: The 1988 560 SL is equipped with a 5.6-liter V8 engine (M117), which produces approximately 227 horsepower and 366 Nm of torque. This gives the car a good balance between performance and comfort.

Performance: The 560 SL can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in around 7.5 seconds and has a top speed of around 225 km/h, which was impressive for a grand tourer in 1988.

Design: The R107 series, which includes the 560 SL, has a timeless and elegant design with a long hood, short rear and a spacious interior. The model also has removable hard and soft tops, making it a flexible convertible.

Luxury and comfort: The interior of the 560 SL is luxurious with high-quality materials such as leather and wood panels. The car is also equipped with amenities such as power windows, automatic climate control and cruise control, which were advanced features for their time.

Safety: Mercedes-Benz prioritized safety, and the 560 SL is equipped with several safety features such as ABS brakes (Anti-lock Braking System), driver and passenger airbags, and a robust construction that provides good passenger protection.

Production and popularity: The 560 SL was produced from 1986 to 1989, and is the last version of the R107 series. These are still highly sought after on the used market due to their reliability, performance and classic styling.

Fuel consumption: The fuel economy of the 560 SL was not its strong point, with an average consumption of around 15-18 liters per 100 km, depending on the driving conditions. However, this was expected for a V8 engine at the time.

Market Value: The 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL has seen an increase in value on the collector market in recent years, and well-preserved examples can sell for significant sums, especially if they are low-mileage and in original condition.

Cult status: The 560 SL has achieved cult status among car enthusiasts and is considered one of the most iconic models from Mercedes-Benz. It has often been seen in popular culture, including TV shows and movies, further increasing its popularity. In conclusion, the 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560 SL is the epitome of luxury, performance and timeless design. Its combination of powerful V8 engine, elegant lines and comfortable interior make it a sought-after classic even today.
