von Braun´s Review
The flagship model Mercedes 560 SL was introduced in 1986 and is the most modern and upgraded variant of the R107 series. This model was only delivered to the North American, Australian, and Japanese markets and thus does not exist in a European version. This car has only been driven in dry and fine climates throughout its life and shows no signs of rust. When it was built in November 1986, the car was painted in its very stylish color called Smoke Silver Metallic, which has a slightly warm tone of champagne or sand. The interior, named "Leather - Palomino 274," is a beige/brown color that is very representative together with the warm metallic paint and a dark brown soft top. However, we have fitted brand new and more stylish European bumpers on the car after it arrived in Sweden. The most complete and comprehensive presentation of the car including 33 high resolution photos is found at vonBraun.com.
The Mercedes was originally delivered in California to the Gaugler Family Trust. Through complete service and ownership history, including the service book, every workshop visit with specified repairs can be verified. This way, von Braun Sports Cars has had the opportunity to conduct a good background check. It was regularly serviced at the same workshop in Newport Beach for the first 10 years and was sold for the first time in 1996 at 189,000 km. The new owner had the car serviced and maintained with various renovation works at reputable workshops, including Mercedes-Benz in Escondido, Southern California, north of San Diego. Seven years later (2003), the car was sold to Medford in Oregon, just north of California. This owner also had Mercedes-Benz of Medford go through the car before he continued to own it on Oregon plates but mainly used his car in Phoenix, Arizona. In Phoenix, the owner had a reputable workshop continuously maintain the car until his death in 2020. Thereafter, the car was garaged for 2-3 years before it was sold for export to Sweden. The mileage has truly puzzled us. Never before have we had a car at von Braun Sports Cars with such mileage but which at the same time shows such a fine condition more comparable to 70-80,000 km. Yes, it appears that some of the body panels have been repainted during its 37 years on the road when we measure the paint thickness, but no color differences or repaired crash damage have been identified. We have records of when the shock absorbers, alternator, brake calipers, ball joints, and engine and transmission overhaul were done on the car, among other things. For this reason, we see no cause for concern about the mileage of 176,788 miles, i.e., 285,000 km. The Firestone tires are in new condition in terms of tread depth and have no dry cracks at all, but were manufactured in week 36 of 2011.
The Mercedes-Benz 560 SL belongs to the R107 series, which was manufactured between 1971 and 1989. It was designed under the leadership of Friedrich Geiger, who also designed the famous 300 SL Gullwing. The R107 is one of the longest continuously produced series in Mercedes-Benz history, and the 560 SL is the most modern version of the model series. This is a popular, solid, and user-friendly open sports car. It has a proper metal roof in the form of a removable hardtop as a complement to its folding convertible.
