1977-1985

Debut

Ferrari 308 was presented at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 1975 as a successor to the Dino. The model name 308 stands for 3.0 liter V8: a. The model quickly became popular thanks to Tom Sellek in the U.S. television series Magnum. It was produced until 1985 when it was replaced by the 328. The first models were lightweights bodies molded in fiberglass. Already during the production year 1977 the production changed into steel bodies. To begin with, the model were produced only as a coupe but in 1977 the GTS model was launched. The GTS was equipped with a removable roof section.

Several engine versions

308 was first equipped with carbureted engines with 255 hp. (Most likely they left no more than about 220-230 hp). In model year 1980 the 308i came and it had a Bosch K-jetronic fuel injection and emission control that reduced power to 214 hp. In late 1981, Ferrari had developed its new four valve cylinder heads and the model was then called 308 Quattrovalvole. A quite honest figure of 240 bhp at 7000 rpm was declared. Despite the later cars has a slightly heavier steel body, the performance is now restored from the early model years.

208 GTB / GTS

In 1980 there was a two-liter version, adapted to the Italian domestic market due to emission and tax requirements that were punishing cars with engines larger than 2 liter. The production of these 2 litres were no more than 160 GTB and 140 GTS.

308 GTBi / GTSI

From 1981 the engines had direct injection to meet the more stringent requirements for emission control. Production in total was 495 GTB and 1734 GTS.

208 GTB / GTS Turbo

From 1982 Ferrari supplied two-liter version with turbo and fuel injection, resulting in more power. Production in total was 437 GTB and 250 GTS.

308 GTB / GTS QV

At the Paris Salon in 1982 Ferrari introduced Quattrovalvole engine, with four valves per cylinder and the car had a light facelift. Production in total was 748 GTB and 3042 GTS.

Standard luxury

In the 70's and 80's, power windows and AC was luxury, but this was standard on the 308. The car has a 5-speed manual transmission and is generally easy to drive and a nice Ferrari for enthusiast.
